LaPiS10: Red

Nothing is much redder or yummier than a pair of juicy red pinoy hotdogs. Preferably on a stick. With a dollop of banana ketchup! Yum.

Tender juicy pseudo-Purefoods Hotdogs.
Take it from a pinoy - a hotdog is not a hotdog unless its red.

The redder the better?
Gosh, I’m suddenly missing Smokey’s.

My name is Meeya and I am a junkie.
A junkie for pinoy junkfood, that is.
A trip to the Asian/Filipino store isn’t complete without my deadly stash of extra sodium, haha!

I can’t live without my Clover Chips!
And my Chippy. And my Vcut. And those darn addicting and darn smelly Cracklings.
Absent these, I try to [...]

LaPiS08: Birthday Food

The thing about pinoy birthdays is: there’s always a buffet - a fiesta. There’s none of that boring, western-type, sit-down, six-course dinner. Our parties are intended as a free-for-all for our friends, family, or even the entire barangay!
And, of course, there’s the ubiquitous pancit or noodles (for long life), the bbq or hotdog on sticks, [...]

Better late than never!
Last week and the weekend before that were pretty hectic for me so I wasn’t able to post my LaPiS entry last week. Habol po.
Ever since we moved to the US, I have craved for Mami like no other. Especially during the winter months when a hot serving of soup [...]

Our apartment community put together a nice afternoon food tasting event today. I purposely didn’t cook any lunch because I purposely wanted to stuff myself silly with all the free samples that would be offered by the participating restaurants in and around our neighborhood.
The details of the food tasting event deserve a separate blog entry [...]

A friend of mine recently returned from a trip to the Philippines and, bless her heart, brought back some yummy pinoy goodies from back home. One of them was a bunch of danggit, straight from Cebu.
I know, I know, danggit isn’t sour by far.
That is, unless you dunk it into some spicy Datu Puti vinegar.

Mukha-sim [...]

Ask any barako in my family and they will tell you that this is their favorite summer drink.

… or rainy day drink.
… or breakfast drink.
… or heartbreak drink.
… or vitamin drink.

I don’t know about you but I myself enjoy it ice cold.
And I’m pretty happy they are selling SMBs here even in the local [...]

LaPiS03: Grilled

Last weekend, my family and I attended a mini-poolside barbecue party. I was looking forward to it, mainly because I knew that it was going to be a great opportunity to take some pictures for the 3rd LaPiS theme, which is of course: grilled.
Unfortunately, my camera’s batteries conked out and I wasn’t able to take [...]

I learned the recipe for this Buco Pandan Salad from my friend, Nel. She prepared it one time at a special get-together/ reunion of sorts among our friends. A few minutes after the first person tasted it, the word was spread and, before anyone knew it, a desperate stampede was moving towards the buffet table [...]

LaPiS01: Fruit

Florida shares the same tropical climate as the Philippines (it’s summer all year long!), which isn’t surprising why many of the fruits that we have over there are more or less also available here.
However, if there is one fruit that’s always in our home, it is the Cantaloupe, or simply “melon” to us Pinoys.

My [...]
