
There was a time when Zagu and Orbitz dominated the beverage scene in Manila. I was one of the many who stood in line, just to satisfy a craving for mocha shake with sago.
Years later, the bubble tea craze fizzled out because some people let it leak that the powders that the bubble tea makers used were chemically unsafe for the body. Bye bye business.
Whenever I, however, sometimes still get that craving (out of nostalgia, perhaps? or just because I love the bubble-gummy feel of tapioca pearls in my mouth) it’s off to the vietnamese pho house I go for my bubble tea.
Unsafe powdered mix for a few minutes of tapioca happiness, it’s worth it.
