No matter how yummy my ancestral recipe for adobo is, he still prefers his mother’s recipe.
He will not eat canned sardines, if he can help it. According to him, it brings back memories of the days when sardinas was a luxury ulam for his family.
He likes his ginisang munggo with a pinch (or three) of sinigang mix.
The clincher? When we got married, I was very contented to eat whatever my husband cooked. But one day, I just had a super craving for something savory with gata – chicken curry, ginataang kalabasa and sitaw, laing, anything! And then, to my horror, I discovered that my husband detested the one thing that I loved with a passion – gata.

Our compromise. I am not a fan of crabs and he’s not a fan of gata but, together, this clicks.
