Pinoy Cuisine

After spending the past few weeks busying myself with finding a car insurance for our cars (it’s really not as easy as some people say it is), I finally, I found the time to continue featuring some of the eateries we’ve visited these past few weeks.

This week, let me present our local Filipino food outlet here in the Atlanta area: Pinoy Cuisine in Norcross, GA.

The pictures I’m sharing are from our most recent dining experience there, but we’ve already dropped by quite a few times (especially when I’m too lazy to cook!). For $3.99 you can get two ulams (viands) plus rice, add another dollar and you get three ulams.

On this particular visit, I got the lechon kawali and sauteed monggo. I guess, you can call this my staple order because that’s what I usually get, haha! Their pork is crunchy good, and the monggo was the perfect combo for it.

I have to say that the serving size was larger during the store’s first few weeks of operation but, I guess, it has tapered to “tama lang” over the past months. Still quite filling, though.

With a little bit of help from my friend, patis, I was able to season the monggo to my personal taste.

Hubby had the grilled porkchop and sauteed veggies.

The meat was well-seasoned but a bit dry (or probably has been sitting there for a while, then reheated for serving). The veggies were okay for me, but not for my hubby who wasn’t really crazy for the generous luya flavor.

Anyway, I’ve learned not to expect a lot from the Filipino restaurants here in the US (and I’ve been to a lot!) mostly because it is a given that they cook stuff differently, and that you will never be truly satisfied unless it’s your own mom who’s doing the cooking.  For this eatery, all in all, not bad for getting your daily fix of pinoy food. I guess, I can say that: it might not be your mom’s cooking, but it certainly is something like your friend’s mom’s cooking – homey, authentic, not the flavors you’re used to but still comforting.

One thing we love about them is their service – they’re very friendly and accommodating, and always ready to make chika-chika. :)

It’s good that there’s a Filipino restaurant near your area. Combats homesickness from time to time.
