Kitchen Showcase

I used to have a thing against galley-style kitchens. I think it stems from the fact that we used to have a galley-style dirty kitchen in my family’s home in Pinas which we used to the max, all while our huge “showcase” kitchen was almost never used (except for prepping). I hated the enclosed feeling of the galley kitchen, mostly because there was no room to move around even just for two people (which maybe explains why I never bothered to learn how to cook back then).

Fast forward to today. Who would have ever thought that I’d end up with a galley kitchen? :D

On the left is the prep area and on the right are the big and small appliances. The door in the middle leads to the laundry room.

Granted, of course, this kitchen is loads more spacious than my family’s erstwhile dirty kitchen, plus it has matching major appliances, heavy-duty stone tops, and ample storage. When we go apartment hunting, I always make sure that we take a unit with a kitchen where I can feel comfortable cooking in. Our current one (and we’ve had 6!) is probably my favorite of all – its pretty small but very utilitarian.

The ubiquitous rice cooker together with my favorite kitchen gadget (the oven toaster) and hubby’s favorite picker-upper (the coffee maker). Can you spot the Christmas cards of two Lasang Pinoy Sundays players? :D

My favorite thing about the kitchen is the prep area. It overlooks the family room so I always have my eye on my telenobelas Ninna, and also because it allows hubby and I to work together without feeling too cramped.

Hubby takes the prep space on left side of the sink, while I take the right side. I also personally love the deep tubs of our sink – less messy to handwash the huge kaserolas and kawalis, hehe! I actually have dirty dishes in the sink waiting to be washed, you can’t see them at all from this angle, di ba? Actually, I love the sink so much that I hardly use the dishwasher! :)

And because we really can’t do anything about the personalization of the kitchen, our family’s personal touch comes in the form of our ever-growing fridge magnet collection. :)

My only reklamo with this kitchen is, it doesn’t have a lot of natural light and exhaust (because the kitchen is situated as far away from the windows as they made possible). That’s apartment living for y’all. Well, that will not happen in my own kitchen (someday). :)

As you can see, I can’t stop talking about the kitchen of our rental apartment. What more if I were talking about my very own pugon in my own dream kitchen? :D
