Sharing with you our Media Noche this year, I have to say that it does not even begin to approximate the pinoy idea of Media Noche.
For one, we did not spend the last day of the year warmly ensconced at home – we awaited the coming of the new year at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando. So, before viewing the awesome fireworks at the strike of twelve, we first partook of our dinner-slash-media noche sandwiches.
Yup, sandwiches! No lechon, or embotido, or chicken pastel, or the usual pinoy midnight feast for us. Just a simple, classic, tummy-filling fare that’s guaranteed to keep our outlook for the new year light yet full.
However, what we had were more than just any sandwich – we had Earl of Sandwich‘s sandwiches. It’s by far, really, the world’s greatest hot sandwich.
They are so good that it’s almost akin to the menu creator undergoing prior CDL training for sandwiches, haha!

Because there are only a handful of Earl of Sandwich locations in the US, we never set foot at Downtown Disney without eating here. It’s our ultimate sandwich place and of all the restaurants spread all around the area, hungry or not, this is the first one we always go to.

So yes, in a sense we may have missed out on the traditional new year meal. However, I believe that it’s not what you eat that matters, but the hope, joy, and positivity that you greet the coming year with that keeps the heart a-light and tummies a-full.
I hope, though, that this doesn’t mean we’ll be eating sandwiches all year. Yikes! However… if it’s from the Earl, I don’t think I’d mind.
From my family to yours, a happy, prosperous, and explosive new year!!!
