Soup

Better late than never!

Last week and the weekend before that were pretty hectic for me so I wasn’t able to post my LaPiS entry last week. Habol po. :)

Ever since we moved to the US, I have craved for Mami like no other. Especially during the winter months when a hot serving of soup made every part of the body, including any homesick heart, warm.

I think this love affair with Mami started way back when I was still a kid. Our old home used to be along Banawe Ave. in Quezon City. My family didn’t have a lot of money so whenever I did good in school or there as any kind of special celebration, my parents would compensate and reward me – not with toys or new shoes or clothes but – with food. Our celebration place was Ma Mon Luk. Ring a bell?

The old Ma Mon Luk was a luxury for us, considering that celebrities used to dine there. My mom was forever craning her neck for the next Sampaguita star that would come through the door. To my child’s mind, the star of the show was always the Mami and Siopao. :)

Here in the US my eternal craving for Mami is (partly) satiated by our trips to the Vietnamese Pho Hoa.

Seafood and chicken pho with egg noodles. (Sorry for the blurry pic, too hungry to take pics, hehe). Almost a Chicken Mami, but not quite.

Beef Pho with wide rice noodles. Almost a Beef Mami, but not quite.

What I would pay to be in Chowking right about now. Sigh.

~~~
My LaPiS entry for Birthday Food coming next, after a few words from our sponsors, hehe. :)
If you want to join this weekly whetting of appetites, please do visit the Lasang Pinoy Sundays page HERE. See you there, thanks!
