Our destination last weekend was Key West. We arrived at past 1pm so you can just imagine how hungry we were. Two words: Seafood Buffet. And that’s where we went.

Captain Mario’s is located along Duval Street. If you weren’t really looking for it specifically, you could surely miss it.

The restaurant itself is housed in this repurposed old home, one of many along Duval street.
Truth to tell, our expectations were set a bit high, the restaurant being centrally located and all. They boasted of more than a hundred seafood buffet items but my eyes and tummy sure didn’t see it that way. Ambience was bleh. Service was double bleh. And, I would have given this place a 1, except that the food was surprisingly tasty, hehe.

My food (clockwise): deep fried conch critters, tilapia filet, battered shrimps, crab cake, fried chicken wings, a slice of bbq rib, and some tangy tartar sauce. Very southern, very fried, very cholesteroly, but good.

As usual, my Ninna feasting on her shrimps, mashed potato, a chicken wing, bread roll, and fries.

The happy surprise of our meal was their bbq ribs. I almost wasn’t able to take a pic of it because it was fast disappearing from my hubby’s plate, hehe. Sauce was really really good!

For dessert, there were fresh fruits on the buffet line but Ninna and I just couldn’t get our paws off of the homemade ice cream. Pictured here is a scoop each of Strawberry, Mango, and Coffee ice cream.
Although the dessert kept us really happy, it was just really hard to look past the bad service and the limited items on the buffet. Unless you’re as hungry as I was, hehe.
At $11.99 (lunch price) per person (kids below 5 eat free, kids 12 and under pay half) it’s cheap, but I guess, you’ll be eating what you pay for.
